PACKAGING
Cannabis Packaging 101: Bags, Jars, Tubes and the Job Each One Does
Packaging Has More Than One Job
Cannabis packaging has to contain the product, protect it, support compliance, survive distribution and communicate the brand. The best format depends on what is inside and how the product moves through the market.
Bags
Flexible pouches are lightweight, efficient to ship and offer a large printable surface. They are commonly used for flower, edibles and other products where barrier properties and resealability can be important. Child-resistant closure options and material requirements should be evaluated for the target market.
Jars
Glass and plastic jars can provide strong shelf presence and product protection. Glass offers a premium feel and chemical resistance but adds weight and freight cost. Plastic can reduce weight but may introduce sustainability and material-content considerations depending on jurisdiction.
Tubes
Tubes are widely used for pre-rolls and other compact products. Diameter, length, closure, odor control, child resistance, material and labeling area all matter. Small dimensional changes can have a large effect on fit and packing efficiency.
Buy the Package as a System
Do not evaluate the container separately from the closure, label, insert, tamper evidence, case pack and shipping method. Greencoast can source standard formats, customize proven packaging or develop a more proprietary solution.
